Studies are continuously showing the beneficial impact technology
has on students. However practitioners have been identified as being nervous when
working with computers. Agyei and Voogt (2011) identify that this has a
significant impact upon their pedagogical performance.
Even though technology is a significant factor unless teachers are
trained and have the right knowledge and confidence within these methods their
teaching through ICT will not be effective. (Brown. 2014)
The video below demonstrates how understanding and confidence have
a beneficial influence on the use of technology.

I agree that the use of technology within the classroom is an effective tool for learning and motivating students.
ReplyDeleteDo you believe that ICT in the classroom impacts academic achievement?
The academic achievement of a student through ICT is partly dependent upon how teachers present their material. If a teacher is adapting to the use of technology they are less likely to use it. (Aldunate and Nussabaum. 2013) Therefore it cannot be determined how academic achievement changes due to ICT as every teacher has a different pedagogy.

I think the way people, particularly children, are becoming more integrated with technology, that it has to be considered a factor for success.
ReplyDeleteYoussef and Dahmani (2008) noted that the early introduction of ICT based systems in education, lead to a more positive performance from students in their later education.
So I personally think that teachers need to be embracing new teaching methods, that can adopt certain technological advantages and allow for better student learning.

I completely agree that introducing students and teachers to technology is beneficial for both. However, its ability to increase academic achievement is dependent upon the way it is used. According to Lou and Yang (2016) interactive white boards have shown little to no influence when it comes to improving essay writing and other practical and necessary skills.
ReplyDeleteDue to IWB being one of the main sources of technology within schools, (Beauchamp, 2004) it can therefore be argued that, the use of technology and the impact it has on those learning is dependent on how teachers use it.
